Emily Ellen Coleman, 96, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois.  Born in Merom, Indiana, on February 22, 1915, she was the daughter of Rev. Levi James Carter and Lydia Viola (Yeager) Carter.  She was a graduate of Newton Community High School ~ Class of 1934.  She retired from E. R. Moore as a seamstress and Jake’s Smorgasbord as a cook.  She was a member of the Bethany Christian Church, rural Jasper County, Illinois; Crawford County Senior Citizen’s Choir; Bethany Church Women’s Fellowship and she also played the piano at Bethany for many years.  She enjoyed bowling, loved to sew, crocheting, quilting, embroidering, gardening and caring for her in-laws for many years.

On August 16, 1938, she married Clarence M. Coleman, who preceded her in death on March 10, 1984.  Also preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters, Zenovia Henry, Edytha Matheny and Iris Jean Vanetta and one brother, James Vincent Carter.

Emily is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Levi & Verna Mae Coleman; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn Coleman and Lydia & Mike Bailey; six grandchildren, Vickie Parks, Dorothy Coleman, Rene’ Genelle, Kyle & Tawnya Bailey, Darice Bailey, Kirk & Kendra Bailey; eight great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Estil & Bernadine Carter; a sister-in-law, Rhoda Simpson and several nieces and nephews.

Bro. Ken Slisher will officiate the funeral service.  Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, rural Jasper County, Illinois.
